Saturday 14th January the Basildon team travelled to Great Notley, Braintree to compete in the 4th round of the Essex Cross Country League. Once again Abigail Ives showed her domination winning the U13 girls, backed up by fine performances by Daizy Harris (9th), Kiera Bott (10th), Samiya Aitmarri (13th), Francesca Turner (19th), Ella Witcher (25th) and Jessica Turner (38th) to win the U13 Team competition.
The U13 Boys finished 3rd Team with performances by Daniel Houchell (5th), Harry Jackson (7th), Jayden Gwaza (21st), Alex Hawney (31st), Ellis Wright (33rd), Leo Gershen (34th) and Kian Hewer (37th).
The U15 girls and boys team dominated the team competitions both winning their categories overall. First home for the girls was Grace Burrell with a fantastic 3rd place, backed up by Hollie Rex (8th), Kiera Scott (9th), Hannah Phipps (11th) and Sophie Wetheridge (17th). Daniel Riley lead home the U15 boys in 2nd place with Luke Meridew (9th), Luke Savage (10th), George Hill (16th), James Wright (18th), Jack Saunders (21st) and Billy Saunders (27th).
Abbey Rex was once again the sole representative in the U17 race finishing a fantastic 10th. The U17 Boys were just short of a full team with Isaac Brown (4th), Matthew Houchell (21st) and George Applewhite (24th).
The Senior races once again demonstrated great depth and outstanding performances. In the Women’s race Laura Brooks returned from injury to place an outstanding 4th place, Anna Whitfield just behind in 5th, Nicola Bredin showing fine form in 10th, Louise Douglass (V35) just behind in 14th, Eleanor Johnson returning to the team after a short break in 22nd and Mandy Wetheridge (V45) completing the team roster in 47th. The ladies performances secured them another first place in the team competition.
The Senior Men’s race was a hard fought competition with Basildon’s youngsters shining through. The men were just short of a full team but individual performances from Harrison Smith (U20) first home in 5th, Max Jones (U20) in 7th, Brandon Thorpe (U20) in 8th and Christian Gray (U20) finishing in 56th.
It looks like Basildon AC mean business in 2017, the next Essex League on February 11th is a Home Fixture at Gloucester Park where the teams fine run of form will no doubt continue. (more…)
