South England Indoor Championships

The weekend of 14th/15th January two senior athletes took part in the Southern Indoor Championships at Lee Valley. Vicky Oshunremi and Michael Shields

It’s been several months since competition and clearly since going into winter training Vicky’s run-up has changed this had a knock on effect on the days jumping.  With five no jumps in a row behind her she took her sixth and final jump and leaped into third place earning herself a bronze medal and an indoor personal best of 11.37.

Our other athletes at the games was Michael Shields, he ran his second fastest time ever for 60m hurdles in 8.40 to qualify for the final.  He then went on to equal his pb in the final with 8.39 where he finished fourth.

Well done both athletes.

With four athletes to score Basildon’s Senior women had five athletes taking part in the county championships where they won a gold medal with forty nine points, they held off their nearest rival Chelmsford by ten points and third team a distant seventy seven points.

We also had a full team for the U20 men who came away with a silver medal, scoring the same points as the winning team but by virtue of their fourth runner coming in before ours they were given the verdict.  Unfortunately we were one short for a full team with the U17 men. (more…)
