Photographic & Filming

Basildon Athletics Club understands that spectators, parents, and guardians may wish to take photographs or record video at training sessions and competitions held across a range of venues. Capturing these moments is generally positive and enjoyable, and the club recognises the value of recording athletic achievements and memorable occasions.

While this type of activity is often difficult to restrict or monitor, the club is committed to ensuring that photography and filming are carried out responsibly. In particular, we aim to respect athletes’ image rights, protect younger athletes, provide an environment free from harassment, and reduce any safeguarding or security risks.

As part of the membership process, parents or guardians of athletes under the age of 18 are asked to give consent for photographs to be taken and used for purposes such as press coverage, publicity, the club website, and official social media channels. Where consent is not provided, the club will ensure that images of those athletes are not used in this way. When permission has been granted, only authorised club officials may approve the use of images for official club purposes.

For events organised by Basildon Athletics Club, we reserve the right to introduce reasonable conditions for photography and filming. This may include requesting prior permission or completion of any registration or permit required, including those set by league or event organisers. At events organised by other bodies, photographers and spectators must comply with the rules and requirements set by the event organiser.

The club recognises that:

  • Images are generally owned by the person who takes them, unless they are acting on behalf of the club or under a specific agreement

  • The club has a duty of care to safeguard children and to protect members and the public from foreseeable risks, including harassment or safeguarding concerns

  • Monitoring the use of photography can be challenging, and we therefore encourage parents and guardians to take images only of their own child, unless they are part of a wider group or activity

Anyone wishing to share photographs of athletes taken while training or competing for the club, whether online or on social media (outside of official club platforms), must do so in accordance with the club’s Social Media Policy.

Photography or filming of any kind is strictly not permitted in changing rooms or any other areas where athletes have a reasonable expectation of privacy. This is especially important where children or vulnerable adults are involved.

This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains appropriate and compliant with current legislation and best practice.
